This designer cabochon is almost clear with lovely golden rutiles running through the stone in several directions. It's a tumbled stone, and thick, with a flattish highly polished surface. I've border wrapped it using six lengths of square sterling wire and given it my signature topper and a decorative wire detail. The sturdy bail will accommodate most chains or a leather cord. Note: Rutilated quartz is a combination of clear or smokey quartz, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7, with inclusions of rutile, a titanium oxide mineral (with a hardness of 6 to 6.5). The rutile inclusions usually look like fine metallic hairs or needles, and they can be gold, silver or copper colored as in this particular stone. The quartz can occur in massive form or in prismatic crystals. Most rutilated quartz comes from Brazil or Madagascar. This particular stone is from Brazil. Metaphysically, rutilated quartz is said to activate the higher mind. Rutiles of a reddish color are said to assist in directing light energy to remove blockages in the body.
