This watermelon tourmaline slice has outstanding color. The surface is flat, highly polished and with few nicks. The edges are jagged and not easy to wrap, however, considering the challenge, I think it turned out well. I used 22 gauge sterling wire and added my signature topper, allowing for maximum visibility of this delicate gemstone. A sturdy bail will accommodate most small to medium chains. Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself. The pendant measures 1 1/2" from top of bail and is 5/8" wide.
Note: One of the most significant mineral groups for metaphysical use, tourmalines include a wide variety of different forms. Tourmaline is a complex aluminum borosilicate with a hardness of 7 to 7.5. Heating or cooling a tourmaline crystal, or rubbing it, can cause it to become electrically charged.
Tourmalines are found on every continent and were known in ancient times in the Mediterranean. Watermelon tourmaline is the name given to tourmaline crystals with a pink center and a green "rind" around the outside. These can occur anywhere pink and green tourmalines are found. The best speciments come from Brazil and Africa. They are among the most sought after crystals for working with the energies of the heart.
Enjoy this unique piece of hand-crafted jewelry.
