This teardrop rutilated quartz cabochon is a lovely golden color with darker rust-colored needles or rutiles running through it. The Brazilian stone has a high, polished dome and is quite thick. Note: Rutilated quartz is a combination of clear or smokey quartz, a silicon dioxide mineral with a hardness of 7, with inclusions of rutile, a titanium oxide mineral (with a hardness of 6 to 6.5). The rutile inclusions usually look like fine metallic hairs or needles, and they can be gold, silver or copper colored as in this particular stone. The quartz can occur in massive form or in prismatic crystals. Most rutilated quartz comes from Brazil or Madagascar. Metaphysically, rutilated quartz is said to activate the higher mind.
