Rhodochrosite derives its pink color from manganese. This heart-shaped cabochon has gorgeous bands of deep, semi-transparent pink and white. This pendant bead (note there is a drilled hole that is mostly concealed by the decorative wire--it in no way detracts from this outstanding stone. I've border-wrapped it in 21 gauge sterling silver wire with detail the enhances the pattern and topped it with my signature curls and swirls. Enjoy! Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself. This pendant measures 2 5/8" from top of bail and is 1 5/8" wide.
Note: Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral. In its pure form, it is a rose-red color, but impure specimens can be shades of pink to pale brown with streaks of white as in this stone mixed with the iron carbonate mineral siderite. Its Mohs hardness varies between 3.5 and 4. Rhodochrosite occurs in veins associated with manganese, copper, silver and lead. It is also called raspberry spar and is a cousin of calcite, but where calcite has calcium, rhodochrosite has manganese.
Enjoy this unique piece of hand-crafted jewelry.
