This designer-cut long oval rainbow calsilica is unusual in every way. While most calsilica has stripes or bands running across the stone, this one is brown, green, red and blue swirls like a watercolor wash, and with a splash of yellow in the upper third. Note: Rainbow calsilica is described as being a “microcrystalline calcite with the color resulting from a copper push that cross-cuts rhyolite.” Under Raman spectrography the stone appears to have calcite and plastic or parrafin-like materials present in the stone. There are two theories widely spread about rainbow calsilica: one that it is laboratory made, the other that it is mined near Chihuahua, Mexico.
