This designer-cut rainbow calsilica is unusual in every way. While most calsilica has stripes or bands running across the stone, this one is brown, green, red and blue swirls like a watercolor wash. Note: Rainbow calsilica is described as being a “microcrystalline calcite with the color resulting from a copper push that cross-cuts rhyolite.” Under Raman spectrography the stone appears to have calcite and plastic or parrafin-like materials present in the stone. There are two theories widely spread about rainbow calsilica: one that it is laboratory made, the other that it is mined near Chihuahua, Mexico.
