This designer cut ocean jasper cabochon shows a nice range of colors from deepest moss green to pale salmon pink with bands of white and beige. The stone has a flat, highly polished surface and is one of several I've purchased from master cutter Nate Sills in Bangkok. (The pendant would be stunning with these earrings.) A border wrap in sterling silver with double swirls at the top completes the design. Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself. The pendant measures 2 5/8" from top of bail and is 1 1/4" wide.
Note: Ocean jasper has an interesting history. Ocean jasper from Madagascar is a relatively new material to appear on the market though its original discovery occured in 1922. Ocean jasper's distinctive orbicular patterns are made up of round or spherical inclusions of contrasting colors floating in solid jasper. The orbs can range in diameter from a millimeter to a centimeter, and frequently show a particularly dramatic concentric banding. How this jasper forms is still a scientific mystery.
Enjoy this unique piece of hand-crafted jewelry.
