I thought this Rhyolite bead set so unusual I fashioned them into a one-of-a-kind necklace using sterling silver beads, Bali daisy spacers, round silver balls and sturdy lengths of sterling silver chain. The bead sets are wire-wrapped onto the chain for security and a large sterling trigger clasp secures the necklace. It is very well made and durable with a lot of silver in the design. I hope you like it. Treat someone special to this one-of-a-kind gift or buy it for yourself. The necklace is 22 inches in length, ideal to wear with a sweater or knit top. Here is a closeup photo that better shows the fantastic pattern in the stones. Another, taken in morning light, shows the necklace in its entirety.
Note: Defining Rhyolite is not easy, possibly because it is called many different things. It is a jasper, often referred to as Rainforest Jasper, Orbicular jasper, even Marine Agate. The crystal itself defies normal definitions, however. It is like a Jasper with its vivid colors and polishing to a high luster, but it's more like granite. Originally coming from magma, it has crystalline grains like granite but with the presence of macroscopic Quartz and Feldspar grains. Found in 1986 near Mount hay in Australia, it has quickly become popular because of its gorgeous green color--spotted with traces of salmon, brown, red and orange.
Jasper was a favorite gem in ancient times and is referenced in Hebrew, Assyrian and Latin literature. It is a massive, fine-grained chalcedony and comes in all colors. The name jasper comes from the Greek and means "spotted stone."
Enjoy this unique piece of hand-crafted jewelry. |
