Impression jasper is only one of the names for this gorgeous blue-green stone that resembles serpentine or sea and sand. Other names include sea sediment jasper and aqua terra jasper. It is also called variscite on some websites, however, this is incorrect as true variscite is an entirely differend semi-precious gemstone. The actual stone has proven to be somewhat of a mystery. We know that it is a natural jasper-like material, but no one in the market knows what to call it yet. Impression Jasper has become the accepted trade name, but the scientific name has yet to be identified. This stone has become very popular in the market for its beautiful green/blue color and sandy matrix pattern. You will sometimes see it a blue or green, or even peachblow sea sediment jasper, however these are dyed colors. Either way, the stone is beautiful, sought after and a conversation piece.
